What is happening in Romania these days? On 18 May 2025, Romanians have elected a pro-EU President. Thanks to the democratic vote of the Romanian people, Romania continues her European path, together with the EU community.

As a direct consequence, new financial measures are expected to help improve the Romanian economy. For more details consult the link https://market-entry-romania.blogspot.com/2025/05/what-is-happening-in-romania-these-days.html

The election of a pro-European President in Romania is a positive economic signal which was immediately noticed. The stock market rose, the RON strengthened and interest rates on the interbank market fell.

The new Romanian Government will have to take a series of fiscal measures to rebuild the trust of European authorities and investors.

Currently, the Elected President meets with Finance specialists, with representatives of the business community, of the foreign investors in Romania and the Political Parties in order to identify the most appropriate solutions.

Not only the European Commission and the Rating Agencies are paying attention to the decisions to be taken by the future Government, but also the business people, both local and foreign investors in Romania, such as Romanian Business Leaders, an organization that brings together over 600 entrepreneurs, leaders and professionals from the Romanian business environment.

In addition to fiscal predictability and budget balancing, business people also demand the acceleration of the digitalization of public institutions, the simplification of administrative procedures, and the streamlining of mechanisms for accessing European funds and investments through European funds to stimulate economic growth, as well as an independent, efficient and educated judiciary for the new economic realities.

The new Government will also have to make a development strategy to increase the competitiveness of the Romanian economy.

Priorities are expected to be digitalization, the energy industry, the defense industry, critical resources, new technologies and artificial intelligence.

Romania’s priorities – as stated by her new President – are balancing the budget, attracting foreign investment, rapidly absorbing European funds, a more active policy at the European Union level, restoring citizens’ trust in state institutions and, above all, a clear economic vision.

Romania has the potential to become a success story in Europe under the leadership of her newly Elected President, Nicusor Dan: a competent professional with excellent record track of successful projects, efficient management of the Bucharest City Hall since 2020 and the support of the Romanian people.

USA President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday, 21 May, that Darryl Nirenberg will be the next US ambassador to Romania.

“I am pleased to announce that Darryl Nirenberg will serve as the next United States Ambassador to Romania. Darryl has 40 years of Foreign Policy experience, including as Counsel to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. A proud graduate of Colgate University, and the George Washington University School of Law, Darryl has been, and will continue to be, a tireless fighter for my America First Agenda. He will help us strengthen our ties with Romania, support our Military partnership, and promote and defend America’s Economic and Security Interests abroad. Congratulations Darryl!” Donald Trump wrote on the Truth Social social network.

The United States Embassy in Romania sent a message on Tuesday, May 20, saying that it looks forward to collaborating with the elected president of Romania, Nicușor Dan. “We look forward to working with Nicușor Dan, as President of Romania, and with the new government to advance our shared priorities, such as defense, energy, and trade partnerships.”
Six American senators sent congratulations to President-elect Nicușor Dan, as well as to Romanians in the country and the diaspora “for participating in the democratic process.” American politicians talk about the strengthening of the relationship between Romania and the US and appreciate that the Euro-Atlantic area is stronger with Romania at the table.
US Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Thom Tillis (R-NC), Chris Coons (D-DE), Pete Ricketts (R-NE), Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Katie Britt (R-AL), issued a statement on Wednesday regarding the results of the presidential elections in Romania, writes News.ro. “Congratulations to President-elect Nicuşor Dan. We look forward to working with you to further strengthen the strong alliance between Romania and the United States. We congratulate the millions of voters in Romania and in the diaspora for participating in the democratic process in Romania,” the senators said. According to them, “there are many things we can achieve when we work together.”
