What is the situation of the Milking Robots market in Emerging Europe?
According to the FRD Center analysis , the milking robots market in Emerging Europe is experiencing significant growth and modernization in 2026, characterized by high-volume installations, the adoption of advanced technology by medium-to-large farms, and a push for increased production efficiency. European Union funding contributes to such a development.
EU funding for milking robots in Romania is currently experiencing a strong push through the 2023–2027 National Strategic Plan (NSP) and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), driven by a need to modernize the dairy sector, which has low adoption rates compared to Western Europe. Funding is aimed at addressing labor shortages and enhancing competitiveness by financing automation and precision technology, with substantial non-reimbursable support.
In Bulgaria, EU funding for milking robots and dairy automation is actively supported through the 2023-2027 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Strategic Plan, which aims to modernize the dairy sector, increase competitiveness, and address labor shortages. The market is experiencing growth driven by the need for enhanced efficiency and precision agriculture.
The milking robot sector in Poland is experiencing rapid expansion, characterized by high adoption rates as the country closes the technological gap with Western European dairy producers.
The world’s largest DeLaval VMS™ Batch Milking installation was officially opened at the Fortune Cieszymowo farm in Pomerania, Poland, in September 2025. This high-tech facility is equipped with 25 DeLaval VMS™ V300 robots, with 24 robots in the main milking parlour and one in the calving pen, capable of milking up to 1,500 cows daily.
In Czechia, the milking robots sector is undergoing modernization in 2025-2026, driven by high labor costs, a need for improved efficiency, and a desire to enhance animal welfare. The market is shifting from traditional milking parlors towards fully automated systems (AMS) and robotic rotary parlors, particularly among large-scale dairy farms which dominate the Czech agricultural landscape.
GEA’s DairyProQ technology used in the recently installed 50 stalls of the GEA DairyProQ rotary milking parlor at the ZS Vilemov a.s., Dairy farm Uhelná Příbram is just an example.

What is the situation with the Crossborder M&A in the Dairy Sector in Emerging Europe?
According to the FRD Center analysis, one of the international groups’ preferred market entry strategies on the dairy markets in Emerging Europe was to acquire local players.
For example, key global players like Lactalis Group and Olympus entered the Romanian dairy sector primarily through crossborder acquisition of local brands and processors, particularly after Romania’s EU accession, alongside direct investment in modernizing facilities.
Similarly, crossborder mergers and acquisitions was used in Poland. Foreign companies acquired or invested in Polish dairies, particularly in the early 2000s, to gain immediate access to local milk supplies and distribution networks.
International groups entered the Czech dairy sector primarily through acquisitions of existing state-owned enterprises during the post-1989 privatization, followed by significant foreign direct investment (FDI) throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
